ARTISTS STATEMENT: Caitlyn Kenny
My concentration is centered on fantasy and imagination. A lot of this is displayed through previous stories, legends, and myths throughout history and based from different cultures (i.e. the Chinese dragon, Medusa from Greek mythology, etc.). My work has evolved over time, and its course of evolution is through chronological order, starting with ancient civilization’s legends and myths, like the dragon and medusa, moving forward through time, like Alice in Wonderland and Pinocchio, and then moving forward to the point of the digital age, where photographs can be combined with artwork and represent fantastical thoughts, images and ideas. Also, towards the end of the evolution, there are some new spins on old stories, such as the Thumbelina piece of a modern day girl shrunken down to fit on a flower.
